I had to find this information too for setting up Mozilla Thunderbird %26amp; MS Outlook Express as my computer's email clients. I suspect you are doing the same in which case, you probably will want to set up newsgroups (public email bulletin boards) as well. To do that, you need your NNTP, which is usually the name of your ISP followed by "news", so in my case it is "shawnews".

As far as i know you can get your Yahoo mail on POP3 only as a paying costumer. it use to be for free but this option is Extra in the last few years.

I set up Outlook to retrieve my Yahoo mail from the POP3 server so I could have a saved copy of all my emails on my PC. I didn't realize that the default Outlook setting deletes all emails from the source server. How do I get them back to the Yahoo server so I can access my email again? The only way to get them back on the Yahoo server is to forward them from OE to your Yahoo account, and like the other person said, check the "leave copy of messages on server" option in OE.

The only way to save original dates/headers is to save each individual message in OE (save it to your desktop, or somewhere easy to access), then attach them all to a message (or a few messages, if need be) and send it to your Yahoo account. You'd have to play around with it in Yahoo to see if you could save the attachments in your Yahoo inbox as regular messages (I doubt it, but doesn't hurt to try).

Reply:I've never used Outlook to access my Yahoo mail but I use it to access my school mail. There is an option in Outlook under the 'More Settings' button for your email account settings under the 'Advanced' tab to 'Leave a copy of messages on the server'. That should make it do what you want it to do.

What exactly are you using?(what program for receiving mail).

Also, the outgoing mail server wont be the same as your incoming. Your incoming will be something like mail.yourdomain.com and your outgoing will be something like smtp.something.com (or their outgoing mail servers).

If the real thing is a bit too much for you you can always setup WAMP at home its a one click install and will let you view your test sites via localhost.

If you want to run your own domain registrar and hosting you will need a DEDICATED server,or you can go with a reseller plan that lets you brand the servers control panel and signup info with your own.

If you actually mean "Origin website", then the answer is no, you cannot find out what website sold/rented your e-mail address. But you can see where the e-mail itself originated. At the bottom right of the e-mail message in the Yahoo! e-mail website, there is a link for "Full headers". If you look at that, you can see some "Received-from" lines. You want to look at the highest "Received-from" line that is not "from" a Yahoo! address.

Yahoo is still having some problems at the moment. Suggested cures range from Update Adobe Flash Player and Java script to clear IE7 cache, cookies, and browsing history. Different things seem to work for different people. It's causing attachments to not show, 999 errors where it won't let you do a particular action and some people cannot send receive delete or move mail. It's not just Vista either it's happening to some of us on XP. Reply:On my computer, if a message doesn't "go", it tells me that the message was not sent. Check your "sent" mail file to be sure it "went". Maybe whoever you're emailing is denying it or doesn't want to admit receiving it. Look for "message sent" to be sure it went out.Sometimes if something doesn't go, it will say it was sent, but later you will get a message in your inbox saying there was a problem and it actually didn't go anywhere.

Should I be using POP3 instead of IMAP if I want my inbox and sent box on my

laptop to mirror my third party's email server and what do I need to change

to get it to do so? Here are the details....

I'm using Outlook 2003 and have it configured to IMAP. I'm accessing my

university's email account (which also uses Outlook) through Outlook on my

laptop (remotely). The problem is that (1) when I send an email via logging

on to the server, the Outlook on my laptop doesn't update my sent box when I

open it, (2) when I retrieve an email via logging on to the server, my

laptop's Outlook still thinks that it's new mail and, (3) the same is true

vice versa. What I want is for my laptop's Outlook to look at and mirror my

school's Outlook (but ONLY when it comes to my inbox and sent items - i.e., I

still want to retain my (laptop's) Outlook's personal preferences like

display name, rules, alerts, stationary, etc. - my school's Outlook is rather

stripped down).

No, POP3 will not do what you are interested in.

It's not about syncing up Outlook. It's about syncing up with your school's email severs. Only your school can say whether this options is available or not.

I'm fairly sure that with *free* hotmail accounts, you can't use Outlook Express's builtin HTTP access. I haven't tried in probably a year, though. The fee based hotmail accounts allow this access.

First you need to know if the smtp server requires authentication or not from the host/isp. If you are using email from a different provider than your isp, you probably need to use the ISPs outgoing mail server. ISPs do this for safety. Make sure you have smtp authentication enabled on your computer w/ the UN/PW entered correctly. Some ISPs are changing their SMTP port to 25, you could call them and ask so you can change the port in the program. If nothing works usually you can just remove the account from the client, restart the computer and add it again. You could also test telnetting the SMTP port. Open a dos/bash prompt and type in "telnet smtp.ispname.net 25" where you replace smtp.ispname.net with the actual smtp server name. You want to see the first thing it responds with is "220" and a server address. That means that you can contact the server. Type in "EHLO test.com". You want it to respond with the number 250 and usually they write something funny like "pleased to meet you". At this point, if you still can't connect to the smtp server via your client, disable your firewall and try again. If you still can't, contact your ISP.

If you are accessing your mail from outside campus the answer is no. The only people who could possibly see what you are doing is those "upstream of you" (which would be your ISP).

In either case connections with a bank are done over SSL (secure sockets layer) so the information is encrypted. Look for the https: in the address bar. The 's' means the connection is encrypted.

On a related note, there is no way for one page you are viewing to interact with another page and see what you are doing unless it is exploiting some kind of flaw in the software you are using (your browser). Assuming your university is not trying to hack you, you are all set.

If you are using the university server to browse the internet then they could potentially have access to the website information and if you are not connecting via SSL then any information you browse could be picked up by a sniffer.

Your ISP would have the ability to log your browsing activity... the actual packets would not be captured but the potential is there.

Just being logged into your email would not give your university access to your browsing history if you are not logged in thru their servers to browse.

It seems that there are a lot of people out there having the same problem lately. Just copy the email address from the ad and paste it directly into the email you are writing. This is much easier then trying to figure out server ports and pop ups.

You usually access them to download to a program like Thunderbird, Eudora, Incredimail or Outlook. Your e-mail provider will have more info about what is called POP access on their site.

This will only work if you are sending the message in HTML format. Some email programs will also make the person click on a 'view image' option to see this. Another option is to right click on the image on the site, save to desktop, and add as an attachment. Most email programs will show the image within the viewing plain when the receipient gets the message.

Create A Alias address, and in the email box select modify and add the smtp address you are forwarding to.

Reply:According to my calculations....Unless you are the administrator of the server and can actually log into it, and check the Active Directory Snap in, then you cant unless you are using Microsoft Outlook on your computer, but then you would need to have Outlook open all the time. If you do have access to the server and the Active Directory Snap in, then just choose the user you want to forward from, and go to their properties. In their properties, you should see an Exchange General Tab. Go there and on the bottom somewhere, you will see a forward to area. Put the information in there you want and you are done!

If you are using a linux server, mail servers are free, and you should be able to install one quite easily. If your server is Windows, there are lots of free mail servers out there too.

Once you've got the mail server set up, and configured it's DNS entries, you can then use any mail client such as outlook to send your mails. You will have to obtain the e-mail list for all your members, obviously, from your website. As for templates, you'll have to make them yourself.

Can I find actual general location of computer sending me email if the ip address just shows server location?

An acquaintance has been sending me emails, and he says he is currently in Georgia using internet cafes. I'm wanting to know if she is actually in Georgia, but when I checked the IP address of the computer he's sending from, it gives me a location in Canada. Other than IP address, is there a way to get a general location of the computer he's using? He has a gmail account.

I need to make a simple email server to forward emails?

i have a college project to make a email server or something which will forward a mail coming to abc@xyz.com to a gmail/hotmail account

Get a good idea of the protocols used in email. You should know how POP3 and SMTP work. Your email forwarder will end up being a daemon. It just listens for incoming e-mail on POP3, picks it up, and then sends the mail to abc@xyz.com through SMTP.

go to www.iphide.com... then on that site, it gives you a space to enter the real website you want to go to and it blocks any ip info so no one knows what sites you went to~

Reply:If the School PC admin has Blocked certain sites, its either for your own good, or because its school policy. Study what they say, and do not try and bypass what they specifically block, since they will find out; The block is done for a reason; If you have a good reason for access to external email, ask either your teacher, or your Computer admin.

If you want to use Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird or other third party email clients to view your email you have 2 options.

I currently utilize version 2.0.0.4 of Thunderbird

Reply:I was told I had to pay $19.95/yr to get Yahoo Mail Plus in order to use Outlook Express. I just paid but when I tried to set it up -- it still didn't work. If you get an answer, I'd like to know. Do you have Mail Plus?
Reply:If you don't want to pay for Yahoo Mail Plus, and you want to use outlook express, you can access your yahoo mail if you use a program called Ypops.. Ypops version 0.9.1 works with both versions of Yahoo mail !!!!!! And, it works great with both versions...

Download Ypops 0.9.1 from the following link http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles...

Then click on the the file "Ypops-win-0.9.1.exe" save it to your "My documents" folder, then go to it in "My documents" and double click on it to install it..

Then:

Open up Outlook express

1.Go to "Tools" at the top of your screen then Select "Accounts"

2. Click "Add" button and select "Mail...".

3. Enter your name and click "Next".

4. Enter your email address and click "Next".

5. Set "My incoming mail server is a" to POP3.

6. Set "Incoming (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) mail server" to "127.0.0.1".

7. Set "Outgoing (SMTP) mail server" to "127.0.0.1" and click "Next". (Verify that SMTP is enabled in YPOPs.)

8. Set "Account name:" to your Yahoo! login.

9. Set "Password:" to you Yahoo! password and hit "Next".

10. Hit "Finish".

11. Click on new account named "127.0.0.1" and hit "Properties".

12. Rename account to "YPOPs" or something nice.

13. Select "Servers" tab.

14. Check "My server requires authentication".

15. Select "Advanced" tab.

16. Change "Server Timeouts" to Long - 5 minutes.

17. You may wish to select "Leave a copy of messages on server". This way the messages will not be deleted from Yahoo! when you download them.

18. You may wish to select "Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items'".

This way when you delete a message in OE and empty the trash it's deleted from Yahoo! as well
